1. Tell us about yourself

I grew up in Plano with my parents, one older brother and younger sister. We’ve been there since 1985 when we moved for my dad’s job with Frito Lay. I played football until I developed a bone spur in my knee my last year of high school. Although I grew up playing basketball, baseball, and even soccer at one point.

2. Why did you decide to pursue Crossfit?

I had a very long break where I didn’t work out or do much in the way of athletic activities. I started seeing a nutritionist and lost over the course of a year and a half nearly 200 lbs. Which seems crazy to type out. I realized I had lost a lot of muscle in the process and wanted to start being physically fit in addition to weighing less. I started at LA Fitness and playing raquetball with a friend and forgot how much I enjoyed working out. But it didn’t take me long to get bored and unmotivated doing workouts by myself. I tried P90x a friend lent me and I did okay with that and started to run. That lasted for about 4 months and I started to get bored of that. Finally in Oct of 2015 I decided to finally take Willie up on his offer of a week free of crossfit. I loved it from the start, the people and the community reminded me so much of orginized sports I’ve been going ever since. I hadn’t realized how much having other people around mattered to my fitness.

3. How long have you been a member of Crossfit3040?

I started in Oct of 2015 and I’ve always gone at either 5 pm or 6 pm, I am normally at 6 pm now.

4. What is your favorite benchmark/hero Wod and why?

It would involve a lot of weights. I really like cardio + weight WODs – Cleans, shoulder to overhead, DB snatch, burpees and rowing.

5. What do you consider your proudest moment or greatest accomplishment at Crossfit3040?

I think my poudest accounplishment with crossfit is still loving it 3+ years later and always wanting to get back to it even when I can’t help but take breaks while traveling for work up to 2 months at a time. There are crossfit gyms across the worlds, I’ve been to many of them but they aren’t special like 3040 is. I never have that same drive to attend when I’m not home. If you are talking actual movement it probably would be the 2k meter row I did that was just over 6 minutes

6. How has getting in shape changed your life?

I’m at a point in my life where I might not be the fastest or strongest in the gym but when I think of friends my age they mostly seem to physically be on the decline and I’m doing to opposite. I am constantly working towards getting faster / stronger / healthier and it’s a lifestyle I’m not going to stop even though I do occassionaly have to remind myself many of the guys in the gym are 15 years younger than me. haha

7. What are some of your favorite things to do outside of Crossfit?

I love traveling and have been to Japan, Thailand, India, England, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, China, and a ton of different states on road trips. I love working with my hands so I work on my cars or motorcycle, I paint and cook.
